2023: a transformative year for Boaz Studio!

Posted: 20th December 2023

This year has been particularly noteworthy for us, with significant achievements that have shaped our identity as an interior design studio. We’ve undertaken projects in the residential, hospitality, educational, and healthcare sectors across Cornwall, Devon, and further afield. As we wrap up the year, we’re reflecting on the diverse projects we have worked on, connections we have made, and the shout-outs that came our way. It’s been quite a journey!

achieving b corp certification

In 2023, we reached a significant milestone on our sustainability journey by achieving B Corp certification. This accomplishment reflects our ongoing commitment to ethical business practices and making positive contributions to our community and the environment. We are honored to join a community that shares similar values, and we continue to learn and evolve in this space.

The Trinity Cafe, a project we had worked on since 2019 finally opened it’s doors this year!

educational initiatives and sustainability discussions

Boaz Studio actively engaged with Colleges and universities and hosted our very first work experience student who gained hands-on experience in our design process. Additionally, we recently collaborated with Falmouth University BA Photography students, who created 5 campaign images as part of their course studies. Stephen and Alice also returned to the BA(Hons) Interior Design course at Falmouth University to present a lecture on navigating sustainability with interior design, giving a crash course in ways to make environmentally and socially considered design choices.

planet c conference, SWARM, and carbon literacy training

At the Planet C Future of the Built Environment Event at the Eden Project, Stephen participated in a panel discussion on B Corp Certification and emphasized the importance of sustainability in the interiors industry.

Boaz Studio also undertook carbon literacy training, taking proactive steps to measure and reduce our carbon footprint, collaborate with suppliers, and contribute to a shared database for sustainable best practices.

On one of the hottest days of the summer, we attended LEAP’s sustainability action plan event held at Heartlands, Redruth. “A SWARM TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE CORNWALL AND IOS CREATIVE SECTOR”. Alice joined 60 creatives to put forward key questions and challenges for a sustainable future in our sector. We discussed promoting transparency in creative work, using checklists and supplier questionnaires, and encouraging asking difficult questions. We want to nurture a culture of openness by sharing resources and experiences and seeking collaboration opportunities.

podcasts, trade shows, and press

In May, at Design Central South West, Stephen joined Charlotte Dawson of Chestnut Interior Design and Susie Rumbold of Tessuto Interiors on a panel interviewed by Jeff Haywood for an episode of the Interior Design Business Podcast. “Career Changing To Interior Design” is available to listen on Spotify, Apple, Stitcher, Castro, or Google Podcasts. In June Stephen and Alice went live on BBC Radio Cornwall to talk to presenter, Anoushka Williams, about Boaz Studio, B Corp, and happy news stories. News of our B Corp certification was also published in Sustainable Buisness Magazine, and Buisness Cornwall.

5 star reviews all (year) round!

Receiving 5-star reviews across the board has been an incredible boost for us at Boaz Studio. It’s like a high-five from our clients, a validation of our efforts, and a reminder that the passion we pour into each project truly resonates. These reviews fuel our commitment to delivering excellence and leave us with a warm, fuzzy feeling, knowing we’ve made a positive impact on the spaces we’ve touched.

2024: what are our next hurdles?

We’d like to understand and pay more attention to our carbon footprint – how can we track this for each individual project? We have attended carbon literacy workshops, and aim to begin integrating what we have learned into the business. We also want to focus on the ongoing monitoring of supplier and subcontractor standards regarding ethical sourcing, fair labour practices, and environmental impact. As discussed with other businesses at Leap’s SWARM event at Heartlands, we want to make suppliers used to being asked for information on their policies and sustainability credentials.

As Boaz Studio grows and takes on larger projects, maintaining the same level of sustainability and social impact becomes more challenging. This will require careful planning, resource management, and the ability to influence and collaborate with suppliers and partners to align with Boaz Studio’s values. Here’s to continued creativity, sustainability, and positive impact in the coming year!

a creative team that achieve results...

Boaz Studio Interior Design | B Corp Services

"We used Boaz Studio as we needed some help reimagining our lounge after moving in just before having our first child. Our house wasn't working for us and our toddler. Stephen is so approachable and friendly and really listens. He's keen to understand what your needs and wants are as a client and then has an amazing way of turning that into something beautiful, practical, and personal. I am so impressed and would highly recommend Boaz Studio. On top of that, they're really professional, and communication is easy."

"Stephen and Alice worked with us to produce a design for the interior of our coffee house - their ability to bring together all of our different needs and ideas into one unified concept was fantastic - they have knack for drawing out the most efficient use of whatever space they're working with. First class."

"Boaz provided layouts and concept interior designs for our new home, and the results were fantastic: they managed to somehow provide us with something completely unexpected that was completely our style and what we wanted. We feel so much more confident managing the building work and decorating now, and can't wait to see it finished. Highly recommended."

"We worked with Boaz Studio to plan our two-storey extension and associated alterations to our house. We couldn't have done it without them, they were brilliant! Their thoughtful designs really made the most of the spaces, not only in terms of furnishings and decor but also really useful advice about positioning for doors and windows. Stephen and Alice are both fabulous at what they do and really lovely to work with. Highly recommended!"

"Boaz Studio came in to advise on the complete refurbishment of the communal space here at Sunley Orford House, a purpose-built block of quality retirement housing in the centre of Truro. Having listened thoroughly to the design brief he provided well thought out advice on materials, colours and decoration with options that not only bring a more contemporary feel but will revitalise the space for the future. His thought and attention to detail was appreciated by all involved."
