It’s been a long, but ultimately successful year for Boaz Studio. We have worked hard to create sustainable and unique interiors for our clients, and we are pleased to have been able to wrap up the year with a string of successful projects. 2022 has been a year of growth and progress, and we are proud to look back on the hard work we have put in over the past 12 months. In this journal post, we will take a look back at some of the highlights of our year, and share our aspirations for 2023.
Family Spaces
With a few projects rolling over from the pandemic years, we kick-started 2022 with an exciting new residential project back in January. Our clients needed their new home in Mount Hawke to work more efficiently for them and their growing young family. Mixing together contemporary and mid-century, this design idea turns the minimalist’s desire for efficiency and organization into a dynamic and creative house that still functions well for a family. With the garage-conversion still amidst the construction process (but nearing completion), we look forward to implementing our interior design scheme into the project from February.
Bespoke & Flexible
2022 saw the completion of one of our long-standing residential projects, a family home in Cubert. We were approached by these clients in 2020 who needed a flexible solution for their planned new extension. Their project was finished this year and we commissioned the talented Evie Johnstone to photograph the space. Flexibility in this project is particularly captured by our bespoke furniture solutions, which were beautifully crafted by Jamie from Black Jay. Plenty of storage and interchangeable seating were key in making this house work it’s hardest for our clients.
Close To Home
Closest to home, we have recently been working on a Victorian terrace house in Truro. Being sympathetic to the age of the building and it’s original features, Boaz Studio have worked closely with our client to convert the interiors into a luxurious and bold home. The colour black being the predominant feature in the older part of the house, the new extension at the back will follow through with a lighter and more contemporary feel. This transition of styles will be carefully constructed using colour, quality finishes, and timeless furniture choices.
Far Away (ish)
We worked virtually with our furthest away client, based in Hampshire, to advise on the interior design of a late 1920s semi. We were commissioned to help “push” the client’s aesthetic taste and curate the mood for each room. We look forward to seeing how the client translates our conceptual suggestions into reality (it’s looking amazing so far!).
A Little Less Far
Slightly closer to Cornwall (but still over the border) we collaborated with Studio KHid on a residential project in Boringdon, Devon. A penchant for the spectacular, our client wanted the interior of his new extension to be dramatic and make a feature out of the unexpected. The open plan space gives prominence to a stone ‘feature’ island with varying handleless cabinetry in a dark timber finish. Each area is zoned with vintage lighting and offers plenty of seating for social gatherings.
Cornwall With Far-Eastern Influences
In Stephen’s hometown of St Austell, Boaz Studio created a concept scheme for a client wanting to transform the décor of their home into an ode to Asia. The client had a collection of Chinese ornaments, which were the starting inspiration for the interior. Gold and ebony accents combined with textural statement paneling were key in creating a cohesive scheme.
Cornish Coastal-Luxe (No Seagulls Please)
Another residential project rolling into 2023 with planned completion in June, is based in the picturesque village of Mousehole. These clients are building their new home which flaunts views towards St Michael’s Mount and the stunning Cornish sea. We are working with local architect Atelier: Helen Brooks Architect, creating a coastal-luxe single-storey home and guesthouse.
Biophilia, Truro, and Coffee
We couldn’t get through the year without lots of coffee. Boaz Studio has been working with 108 Coffee, Truro, to design a fresh and original interior to be as good as their coffee. The business owner’s talent for illustration and his landscape design background are the predominant influences for creating 108’s unique interior. The proposed scheme involves a biophilic approach, focusing on natural materials, plants, and a sense of community togetherness.
This year we took on one of our biggest aspirations; to become B Corp certified! We have adopted several practices that demonstrate our commitment to upholding strong standards of environmental responsibility and corporate transparency. Our work on this project is ongoing, but it is already having an impact as we strive to be an even more responsible business entity. We submitted our application in April this year, and are now working through the verification queue with our assigned analyst. B Corp certification is not just a one-stop destination, it involves a continuous effort for better business practice, supporting environmental and social regeneration, equity, and interdependence. In 2023, we plan to expand our network of B Corps and like-minded businesses, clients, craftspeople, suppliers, and contractors. Each year we will offer up to 80 hours pro-bono time to community based projects which support Cornwall’s neighborhoods and residents.
We wouldn’t be here without the overwhelming support from our clients, friends, and growing network of talented collaborators. Looking ahead into 2023, our aspirations are greater than ever before as we anticipate new and exciting projects coming in the new year! Stephen, Alice, and Bailey wish you a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and successful New Year!
