about

boaz studio: we design interiors with people and planet in mind.

Boaz Studio is a sustainably focused interior design studio working across hospitality, residential, healthcare, and community-based projects. We’re also a certified B Corp! Based in Truro, Cornwall, we work with local tradespeople, suppliers and materials building links within communities to create inspiring interiors whilst building a sustainable infrastructure. Our method is to reuse and reclaim where possible, or alternatively investigate new and innovative sustainable products. We are proud to be part of a movement that puts purpose before profit, where success is measured by the positive impact we make with our clients, their communities, our employees, and the environment. Boaz Studio’s goal is to produce an interior design concept that will stand the test of time, in a bid for total project eco-effectiveness.

our roots

Stephen Tozer founded Boaz Studio in 2018 after graduating from Falmouth University with a degree in interior design. Stephen went on to win the prestigious ‘Designed for Business’ award from the Society of British and International Interior Design Societies for his final project. He began his career in marketing for major corporations such as Cadbury, Warner Brothers, and Ginsters before deciding to pursue a career in interior design. Alice Nightingale, a Falmouth University alumna, joined the team in 2019 and brings a wealth of experience in sustainability and alternative materials. Boaz Studio was named after Stephen’s grandad, Boaz Stephens, Stephen had always loved the name Boaz and also loves a ‘z’! Our Boaz, as with it’s namesake, rhymes with toes!

We’ve collaborated on projects as diverse as converting a shed into a study room and designing a wayfinding system for a hospital. We enjoy the variety of projects and are eager to take on any challenge that comes our way.

Stephen Tozer

Creative Director & Interior Designer

Stephen founded Boaz Studio after graduating from Falmouth University and winning the prestigious SBID prize for Interior Design. Stephen’s extensive career in customer marketing was excellent grounding for user focused interior design which he applies through ensuring the clients and their end users have effective, enjoyable and memorable experiences within the spaces we design. When he’s not exploring Cornwall’s picturesque beaches with his family and Bailey (the dog), or perusing National Trust properties, he’s trying a bit of DIY or hunting down the best Cornish coffee spots.

our sustainable interior design journey

As of May 2023, we achieved B Corp status! Becoming a B Corp aligns perfectly with our values and reinforces our dedication to sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical business practices. As we continue to work on exciting projects, we are committed to using interior design as a positive force! We take our role very seriously on the short and long term impact that the design industry can have on the planet. We have broken our Environmental & Sustainable Policy into the following key areas:

focus on the adaptive reuse of buildings

We will prioritise projects where we can help to rehabilitate unused buildings, using the materials within the space and honouring the building and its history. This practice applies to all projects; residential and commercial; as we assess a property’s existing assets, flaws, and resources to create a truly unique proposal.

local suppliers and materials

We work closely with local craftspeople and material suppliers to help ground the spaces we work on whilst minimising the requirement for transportation. This will establish projects in the communities where they are based by driving money back into the local economy. Our B Corp journey goals include ensuring that at least 50% of Boaz Studio’s company expenses are spent within a 50 mile radius of our studio in Cornwall.

material life cycle

We begin choosing materials and furniture by identifying the product’s complete life cycle – where did it come from and where will it end up? We adopt the product’s ‘story’ and offer it new life to form a cyclic approach and reduce the amount of furniture going to landfill. Our method is to reuse and reclaim where possible, or alternatively investigate new and innovative sustainable products.

educate

We endeavour to showcase the most sustainable approaches and materials with our clients and through our online platforms. We aim to offer conversational concepts that will drive the sustainable agenda further. We are committed to keeping up to date with sustainable research by reading published articles, books and attending courses so we can offer our design services with confidence.

longevity

We aim to improve the working life of buildings and the spaces within through thoughtful design. We take steps to enhance indoor environmental quality, reducing the risk of sick building syndrome (illness from the building one resides or works) and making spaces more pleasant through the use of biophilic design. This addresses elements such as improved air quality, lighting and ventilation, whilst increasing human connectivity with the natural environment.

a creative team that achieve results...

Boaz Studio Interior Design | B Corp Services

"We used Boaz Studio as we needed some help reimagining our lounge after moving in just before having our first child. Our house wasn't working for us and our toddler. Stephen is so approachable and friendly and really listens. He's keen to understand what your needs and wants are as a client and then has an amazing way of turning that into something beautiful, practical, and personal. I am so impressed and would highly recommend Boaz Studio. On top of that, they're really professional, and communication is easy."

"Stephen and Alice worked with us to produce a design for the interior of our coffee house - their ability to bring together all of our different needs and ideas into one unified concept was fantastic - they have knack for drawing out the most efficient use of whatever space they're working with. First class."

"We worked with Boaz Studio to plan our two-storey extension and associated alterations to our house. We couldn't have done it without them, they were brilliant! Their thoughtful designs really made the most of the spaces, not only in terms of furnishings and decor but also really useful advice about positioning for doors and windows. Stephen and Alice are both fabulous at what they do and really lovely to work with. Highly recommended!"

"Boaz Studio came in to advise on the complete refurbishment of the communal space here at Sunley Orford House, a purpose-built block of quality retirement housing in the centre of Truro. Having listened thoroughly to the design brief he provided well thought out advice on materials, colours and decoration with options that not only bring a more contemporary feel but will revitalise the space for the future. His thought and attention to detail was appreciated by all involved."
