Since Boaz Studio was founded in 2018, our mission has been to do good for the planet and people. For the first time, we are capturing all our efforts in one place. What we’ve done, and continue to do, for the planet, nature, and communities. We’ve already made a significant impact and have bigger ambitions!
Achieving B Corp certification in May 2023 stands as one of our proudest moments. It recognises how deeply Boaz Studio’s purpose and values are embedded in our brand and the impact we’ve made in the interior design industry.
Welcome to our first-ever Impact Report!
We believe interior design can be a “force for good”. The purpose of this report is to share our journey, reflecting on our commitment to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
B Corp certification aligns with our core values of environmental and ethical sustainability and provides a rigorous framework to measure and improve our impact.
Founded in 2018 by Stephen Tozer, Boaz Studio emerged to fill a market gap by making sustainable interior design its foundation.
Based in the heart of Truro, Cornwall, in Princes House, Boaz Studio works with a diverse clientele locally in Cornwall, Devon and nationwide across various sectors. Our portfolio features projects in the hospitality, healthcare, workplace, education, and residential sectors. We collaborate with local businesses and craftspeople to strengthen community relationships and endorse eco-friendly practices.
We want to ensure that the goods we recommend are simultaneously appropriate for our client’s project, lifestyle, budget, and the planet.
We look to inspire change across our projects helping to guide and influence clients through our relationship.
We are committed to embedding ethical and eco-friendly practices in every facet of our operations. To ensure our suppliers align with our values, we require them to complete a detailed questionnaire regarding their ethical and environmental policies.
Based in Truro, Cornwall, we work with local tradespeople, suppliers, and materials, building links within communities and supporting local economies. We aim to procure from suppliers within a 50 mile radius to the project. Our method is to reuse and reclaim where possible, or alternatively investigate new and innovative sustainable products.
We incorporate two sustainability columns in our specification schedules—social sustainability and environmental sustainability. These schedules are shared with our clients and their contractors and used to communicate all the information collected on each product to make informed decisions.
These schedules are also included in the handover pack at the end of the project. A handover pack includes everything Boaz Studio produced for our client, including maintenence and waste recycling guidelines for managing a product after it is defective or no longer required. This is especially useful for passing on information about buy-back schemes to future owners of the properties we work on.
Additionally, we have introduced a sustainability KPI tracker to monitor and record the sustainability metrics and actions for each project.
At Boaz Studio, we prioritise the well-being and development of our employees. We are proud to be a living wage employer, ensuring that all our staff receive fair compensation for their work. We offer flexible working arrangements, allowing our team to work either from home or from our studio in Truro.
We prioritise continuous learning and development, and often attend training courses or talks. Both our employees have completed training for the Carbon Literacy Project, overseen by environmental and social impact consultancy Green-works. From this, we have developed several actions to improve our carbon footprint as individuals and as a company.
We annually donate 80 hours of our time pro bono to projects that support and uplift communities. Our past work includes community creative hubs and cafe spaces, but we are open to any project in an area of deprivation that would benefit from interior design and lacks the necessary funds.
We actively participate in and contribute to community events and professional gatherings. Recently, we hosted an interior design workshop at a local café in Truro as part of a networking event with other local businesses. These sessions provide us with opportunities to share our expertise, talk about all things sustainability, and engage directly with the community.
Our commitment to make at least 50% of our non-labour purchases from independent suppliers, local to the project, is being upheld.
100% of our clients have been local.
We implement waste reduction schemes for all our projects, meticulously recording these efforts in our handover packs which are given to our clients to keep at the end of their project. This includes recycling and buy-back schemes for each product we specify which are documented for future reference.
To minimise landfill waste, we prioritise reusing and repurposing materials that are already on-site whenever possible. When reuse is not feasible, we ensure items are properly recycled or donated. While achieving 100% waste-free projects is currently unattainable, we collaborate closely with other contractors to ensure all decisions are intentional and sustainability-focused.
We are delighted to report that we have consistently received 100% 5-star reviews from our clients who have returned their feedback forms or left reviews on Google. We are proud to build strong, lasting relationships with our clients, ensuring their satisfaction and fostering a positive impact in every project we undertake.
