At Boaz Studio, supporting local businesses and specifying sustainable, high-quality products is at the heart of what we do. As a certified B Corp interior design studio, we love working with suppliers who share our values. Devon and Cornwall are full of inspiring local, B Corp, and family-run businesses, so we recently took a road trip to explore some of our favourites and discover new products along the way. While we are not officially affiliated with any of the brands mentioned here—although we do hold trade accounts with most—we wanted to highlight them because of the fantastic work they do and their commitment to sustainable, ethical practices.
Our first stop was Fired Earth, a brand that has been curating beautiful, authentic products since 1983. Beginning with terracotta floor tiles, they've grown into a trusted name in the UK, offering a range of tiles, paints, and bathroom collections.
At Boaz Studio, we appreciate Fired Earth's commitment to craftsmanship and authenticity. Their products are often handmade and sourced from specialist makers and quarries around the world, aligning with our values of quality and sustainability. Their design philosophy emphasizes timeless style and a deep appreciation for natural materials, which resonates with our approach to creating enduring interiors.
Visiting their largest store in the Southwest at Darts Farm allowed us to explore their extensive range and gain inspiration for our projects.
Our next stop was Amos Lighting + Home, a family-run business with over 25 years of lighting and interiors expertise. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of their sales reps, who took great interest in our B Corp status and was eager to show us their range of sustainable, high-quality lighting solutions. Their knowledge and passion for design made the visit both inspiring and practical, giving us valuable insight into how their products could be specified in our projects.
At Amos Lighting + Home, we discovered not just a wide range of lighting, but also stunning UK-made sofas and other pieces from trusted brands. It was a great reminder of why we love supporting local suppliers—working with businesses that value great customer service and high quality products boosts the local economy and adds real quality and integrity to our projects.
For our more contemporary projects, BoConcept is a fantastic place to find furniture that balances style, function, and quality. A Danish design brand established in 1952, BoConcept is renowned for its modular, functional pieces and collaborations with world-renowned designers. Their customizable solutions make it easy to create interiors that are modern, practical, and timeless.
Upon visiting their showroom, we were delighted to reconnect with a former student of Stephen's from his time as a Associate Lecturer at Arts University Plymouth.
With so many interiors brands within walking distance, we couldn't resist a lunch break at Darts Farm. This family-run farm shop in Topsham, Devon, has been championing local produce since the 1970s.
We enjoyed a relaxed meal in their café, sampling fresh, locally sourced produce. Darts Farm is known for its commitment to quality and sustainability, offering a range of products from small-scale, family-run artisans.
Our next stop was Naturalmat, a certified B Corporation renowned for their commitment to sustainability and human health. Since 1999, they've been handcrafting organic mattresses and bedding in their Devon-based workshop, using natural, non-toxic materials designed to support better sleep while being kind to the environment.
We tested several mattresses, learned about their meticulous manufacturing processes, and even saw them being made in the factory. Naturalmat's dedication to sustainability, natural materials, and ethical production impressed us at every turn. Their products are designed to be breathable and supportive, contributing to healthier sleep and reducing exposure to harmful chemicals.
We also looked at some cast iron beds in the showroom from their sister company, Cornish Bed Company. Based in Par, Cornwall, they are the last traditional Victorian hand-cast metal bed making foundry in the UK. Their beds are made using time-honoured techniques: molten zinc is hand-poured into moulds, and authentic Victorian cast knuckle-joint fixings are used instead of modern nuts and bolts. The result is a bed frame built to last for generations.
Our final stop was Nkuku, a B Corp certified lifestyle and homeware brand that champions sustainability and craftsmanship. Their collections use natural, reclaimed, and recycled materials—wood, glass, metal, hemp, and jute—shaped by skilled artisans using traditional techniques.
Walking through their lifestyle store and café, we were struck by the timeless, natural aesthetic, made even more inviting by the calming scent of a reed diffuser. Every piece feels honest and characterful, celebrating texture and imperfection. Beyond beautiful design, Nkuku’s ethos aligns closely with our own: from their use of eco-friendly materials to valuing and sustaining handmade traditional skills through fair and transparent supplier relationships.
Visiting these suppliers in person gave us the chance to meet the people behind the products and see firsthand the quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability we care about. With so many fantastic makers right here in the Southwest, supporting local businesses is key. It’s one thing to specify items on paper, but experiencing them in real life helps us make better choices for interiors that are beautiful, responsible, and built to last.
If you’re interested in interiors that combine sustainability, quality, and timeless design, get in touch with us at Boaz Studio. We’d love to help you create spaces that are beautiful, responsible, and uniquely yours — using the very best local suppliers the Southwest has to offer.
